Televised mini-series Dagli Appennini alle Ande is one of the many adaptations of the story of the same name from Edmondo de Amicis’ book Cuore, and was broadcast in three episodes on Canale 5 starting from 3 October 1990.
The story is that of Marco, a 13 year-old boy who is in Venice with his father, engineer Vittorio Vigano, when he sees a report on television about the desaparecidos in Argentina, and thinks he recognises his mother, who disappeared years earlier. He decides to set off in search of this woman, thus embarking on a long and bumpy journey that leads him from Patagonia and Bolivia to Buenos Aires, with his father hot on his heels. As well as Latin America, the story is set in the Venetian Lagoon, more specifically the Island of Burano, which is famous for its brightness and colourful houses, reflected in the canals, and its traditional Burano lace, which is handmade by women from the island.
