Anna returns to Curon after 17 years of absence. One of the last inhabited centres in the South Tyrol before the Austrian border, the new village is reflected in the waters of Lake Resia where the old village is submerged with only its bell tower (a key element in the story) rising eerily from the water: although there are no longer bells, some still hear them ring, and they seem to warn of death. The story develops around this legend, often placing the actors in the woods, mountains, valleys and snow of the surrounding areas; in addition to Curon, locations were used in nearby Malles, also in Val Venosta, on the Lake of Caldaro and in San Felice.
