The 14th century Castle of Aymavilles is located in the municipality of Aymavilles in Valle d’Aosta on a hill surrounded by vineyards on the road to Cogne. The manor owes its present appearance to Joseph-Félix de Challant who rebuilt it in early 18th century, transforming it from a purely defensive medieval structure to an elegant residence with decorative plasterwork. The four imposing circular corner towers, which still characterise the building today, derive from the original building; they are inter-connected by 18th century loggias.
The interiors have been remodelled several times over the years and today house a museum which recounts the story of the castle and the families that have lived there, with an emphasis on those traces of past eras and events that are still visible.
The castle also houses the Académie Saint-Anselme collection of art and antiques, a testament to local heritage founded in 1855.
A vast terraced park surrounds the castle, giving it the look of a countryside residence, with a view over the valleys and surrounding vine-covered hills. The castle also comprises stables and several traditional grandze (granaries) used in farming.
