Only a few km from Lake Lesina, Serracapriola is a small village immersed in the natural landscape of the Gargano National Park, on the border with Molise. The village clusters around the medieval castle, an ancient defensive fortress built by Emperor Frederick II and decorated with an octagonal tower and cylindrical watchtowers. The historical centre, in a characteristic cone shape, conserves its medieval charm, with stone paved alleys and domes, towers and fortified gateways. On these uneven streets stand the 16th century Convent of Capuchin Fathers, where St. Pio of Pietrelcina studied, and the churches of San Mercurio and Santa Maria in Sylvis. Serracapriola continues outside the residential area into the pristine natural surroundings, part of the Gargano National Park, the Bosco San Lucio and River Fortore close by.
