Lake Levico was formed relatively recently, when flooding blocked the part of the valley stretching from Mount Tenna to the Canzana on the side of the River Vignola and the River Maggiore.
It is the second biggest lake falling entirely in Trentino after the nearby Lake Caldonazzo, and its shores are home to a lido and an adjoining park, as well as the characteristic rushes. Its unmistakable elongated shape is reminiscent of a Northern European fjord.
It is the biggest and deepest alpine lake in Europe.
