Paolo lives in Turin, where he works in a furniture store: when he meets Mia, she asks him to go with her first to Asti, to meet her supposed boyfriend, then to Rome, where she says she has a house, and then Naples, where she says the father of the child she’s expecting lives. In all three cases the door is slammed in her face, but along the way her exuberant character softens Paolo’s mistrust, and both characters start reflecting on the role of parents.
The journey ends in Calabria, where Mia’s parents live, greeting her with mistrust, whilst Paolo feels like he’s part of a family for the first time. Calabrian locations used include Reggio Calabria and some of the province’s municipalities: Gioia Tauro, Bagnara, Villa San Giovanni, Palmi, and Cinquefrondi.
Just when everything seems like its back to normal, Paolo receives a phone call from Messina: it’s the hospital where Mia has decided to give birth to her baby girl, Italia.
