Alfonso is a scientist: every day he says good morning to his mother’s photo, leaves his home at the Ponticelli Cemetery in Naples, and heads off to study his cells. Until, that is, he receives a letter of dismissal and, on the advice of a friend, decides to turn to a local politician for a recommendation. They help him in return for a favour: he must go to Vico Lungo Pontecorvo and deliver a package. But trouble is lying in wait and, as the result of a tragicomic misunderstanding, Alfonso is forced to hide in a community of Sri Lankans, in run-down lodgings on the roof of a building in the neighbourhood of Avvocata. It is home to Gayan, who has just arrived in Italy and was a famous cricket player back in Sri Lanka. In one scene we see him training on the North Jetty in Bagnoli.

The fates of Alfonso, a Neapolitan scientist who has just been fired, and Gayan, a former Sri Lankan cricket champion who has just arrived in Naples, become intertwined when they are forced to share illegal lodgings on the roof of a building in the Sri Lankan neighbourhood, where Alfonso is hiding out to escape a gang of crooks.
