Ciro, an introverted and complicated young man, is in prison with his friends for raping Irene, who comes from a middle-class family and is just as complicated and introverted. Their destinies become intertwined, against their will, at the end of a day spent by Ciro and his friends in the sun, playing and diving in the sea in Marechiaro, in the neighbourhood of Posillipo in Naples. They both see psychotherapists but it doesn’t solve their problems: he’s serving his sentence on Nisida, a small island in the Phlegraean archipelago which is home to the Juvenile Penitentiary of Naples, from where he writes to his victim. She seeks refuge from her anxiety in the theatre, exploring a city she doesn’t know; on one rainy day, she takes refuge in the Church of Pio Monte della Misericordia, in Via dei Tribunali. Eventually the pair meet: it’s a fleeting encounter, and all they do is exchange looks, with the Centro Direzionale in the background.
