In Venice, the head of the Goddess Moon drops into the Canal Grande during the Flight of the Carnival Angel. After an amorous encounter, Giacomo Casanova ends up in the prison of Piombi in the hands of the Inquisition, he escapes and flees to France where he spends time in the salon of the Marchioness D’Urfé: then to Forlì where he takes care of Henriette; to London where he makes contact with an enormous woman, the main attraction of a travelling circus; Rome where he is challenged to prove his talent as a lover; Berne where he falls for Isabella; Dresden where he meets his mother in a theatre; and Württemberg where he is attracted by a mechanical doll. Eventually, after much wandering, he reaches Bohemia where he eventually becomes the librarian for Count Waldstein. The entire 18th century setting of the film was created in Studio 5 at Cinecittà Studios.
