Where it was filmed 'The Graduates'

Four failing students share an apartment in via Carlo Bini 38 in Rifredi, in the north west of Florence.

Leonardo (Pieraccioni), who dreams of flirting with Letizia (Mariagrazia Cucinotta) in the gardens of the Basso fortress (the camera frames the fountain in the lake before widening to show the lawn where the pair are lying), finally has that experience one evening. Letizia, Rocco’s sister who models for romance novels, is on a shoot in the harbour of Viareggio, a location that appears several times:  there is a glimpse of the lighthouse in the background of a scene in viale Marinai d'Italia.

Leonardo is great friends with Professor Galliano (Alessandro haber) who has a villa in via dell’Erta Canina, a picturesque and extremely steep hilly area in Florence that leads from porta San Miniato to viale Galileo. The professor often visits the cemetery of Settignano to the east of the Tuscan capital.

Bruno (Gianmarco Tognazzi) needs to graduate so that he can run his rich father in law’s business one day. His wife lives in a luxury villa in Follonica (actually Santa Marinella, near Roma, on via Aurelia), but he cheats on her in continuation: in one scene he tries to placate her jealous phone calls but without too much success, given that he tries to pick up a foreigner on the elegant via della Vigna Nuova in Florence.

Rocco (Papaleo), who works as a night guardian to support himself, attends his grandmother’s funeral at the Convent of St. Anthony of Padua in Oriolo Romano near lake Bracciano.

Two significant locations in the film were, at the time of filming, called the Hollywood Bar, in via Vittorio Emanuele II (not far from the apartment in via Bini), where the four men often meet, and the trattoria Coco Lezzone in via del Parioncino 26/r in Florence’s historic centre. To avoid paying the bill, the “graduates” race off; running in the opening scenes through the alleys of Florence to lungarno degli Acciaiuoli: when they sit on the parapet of bridge of the Holy Trinity, ponte Vecchio is in the background as they look ahead to a new life as adults.
