Leonardo Pieraccioni, director and star of the film, is don Simone, a priest on the frontline, seen in the streets, churches and markets of Florence. The three-week shoot used various locations including: piazza di San Salvi, with the Church of St. Michael, one of the most significant parishes outside the city walls, and the ponte alle Grazie bridge over the Arno River with its characteristic five arches, which replaced the Rubaconte, the city’s most ancient bridge, exploded by the Nazis in 1944.
The interiors were shot in Rome where the production stayed for four weeks while Lugano, the Italian-speaking Swiss city, is the setting for the business that Don Simone unexpectedly inherits from his uncle and starts managing, hoping to transform the fortunes of his little Church of the Angels and its deserted oratory. The one week shoot in Switzerland included the following locations: Lugano casino, Ciani park, piazza Rivetta Tell, via Riva Vincenzo Vela.
