War - La guerra desiderata is a war-comedy that fate, made mad by history, desperately wanted to come true. Written in spring 2019, it tells of a crazy war breaking out in the heart of Europe: in spring 2022, while the film was being edited, Russia invaded Ukraine.
Rome is in chaos because of a war, one that is being reported on television: military movements, traffic at a standstill because of peace protests, feral groups assaulting solitary passers-by in the alleys of the historical centre, people running this way and that, paramilitary groups using the pretext of keeping order to take command.
Amidst this growing tension, loner Tom (Edoardo Leo), who has a degree in Romance languages and runs a clam farm (in Sabaudia, near Villa di Domiziano and lake Paola), seems to be the only person who doesn’t realise what is happening all around. When he runs into Lea (Miriam Leone), a social worker - psychotherapist, their first meeting is unpleasant: however, destiny brings them together again – needing a stamp, he joins her at Fiumicino airport a few days later – although they seem to take opposing sides. Lea, daughter of a former soldier, an undersecretary at the Ministry of Defence, is doing all she can to stop the war; Tom, terrified because he is alone, joins a paramilitary group after being assaulted. Both appear unconvinced by their choices but, incredible as it seems, they are the only people who can stop the madness.
Locations in Rome include: the foro italico where Lea spots a military camp, the EUR neighbourhood with Colosseo Quadrato (Square Colosseum) and the Museo della Civiltà Romana, the Ostiense neighbourhood with the Gazometro, lungotevere with its bridges and banks, and piazza del Popolo, with the fountain of the Goddess Rome.
Other locations in Lazio include Circeo, Pomezia and the centre of Viterbo.

Tom has a degree in Romance languages and farms clams. Lea, the eldest daughter of the undersecretary at the Ministry of Defence, is a therapist in a public health clinic. They clash when they first meet, but that’s nothing compared to what is going on around them: a tragic diplomatic incident between Spain and Italy leads to the unthinkable: war in the heart of Europe. And, incredible as it may seem, only Tom and Lea may be able to stop it.
