The Dew Point (Il punto di rugiada) by Marco Risi, produced by Fandango, Rai Cinema, with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, is a film with a very long gestation: "13 years" according to the director. Risi was inspired by the stories of a school teacher, Enrico Galiano, later a successful writer, who told him about his experience in a retirement home, an alternative to military service. At the same time, he had the idea to write a book involving his father Dino, "Forte respiro rapido”. The screenplay contains these elements, and one of the residents at the home is called Dino (Massimo De Francovich).
The protagonists of the film are two aimless young men sentenced to community service in a retirement home. Four seasons bring significant change, not only in terms of the appearance of the home (the arrival of cold weather, snow, Christmas holidays, then the flowering of nature with the return of milder temperatures) but also in the souls of the protagonists who inevitably become emotionally involved in the life around them, during the passing of apparently identical days.
The film was shot in and around Rome, its main setting is Villa Bianca, a residential care home. The rooms were created at Villa Grazioli in Grottaferrata (the exterior and some interiors): the historic 16th century residence, now a luxury hotel, also features in memorable scenes from Il marchese del Grillo (Mario Monicelli, 1981, locations here) with the entrance forecourt and the frescoed rooms seen in Risi's film. Interiors were also filmed at Villa Tuscolana Park Hotel in Frascati.
