In Piedmont, filming took place in Turin (locations included: Docks Dora, the early 20th century warehouses built with innovative reinforced concrete structures) and other municipalities, whose widely versatile settings allowed the production to film a story set in Bavaria, San Francisco and New York in the region. The municipalities included: Ormea, Collegno, Biella, Carignano, Chieri and Rosazza.
In Alto Adige, municipalities included Soprabolzano, Prato allo Stelvio and San Valentino alla Muta.
