Without Blood, produced and directed by Angelina Jolie, is based on the novel of the same title by Alessandro Baricco.
The film is set in an unnamed place in South America, where Manuel Roca lives with his two children. One day, four men in an old Mercedes drive up the dusty road that leads to their farm. As if he had been waiting for this moment forever, Manuel Roca calls his children to his side. The event will turn everyone's life upside down, especially that of little Nina.
The setting was created in Martina Franca (Puglia) and nearby Matera (Basilicata). Filming began on June 6, 2022 in Matera, in the Sasso Caveoso area, piazza San Pietro Caveoso and via Bruno Buozzi.
Set design and logistics in Martina Franca required approx. 60 people to give it the appearance of a Hispanic town. The set decoration changed business signs, in particular those in piazza Maria Immacolata, piazza Plebiscito and nearby via Garibaldi, not far from the Cathedral of San Martino, giving rise to a tabacos loteria, a papelerìa, an el café, a carnicería, and an old fountain near the square.
Filming continued at Cinecittà studios in Rome.
The international cast is led by Oscar-nominated actors Salma Hayek Pinault and Demián Bichir. The film had its international premiere at the 42nd Turin Film Festival.
