Gino & Friends is a coming-of-age story intended for younger children, set in the city of Rome and created with the contribution of DGCA-MiC, Regione Marche (PR-FESR 2021-2027), Fondazione Marche Cultura and Marche Film Commission. The protagonists cross the city, back and forth, which is beautifully displayed, as if in a panoramic, vibrant 2D-animated postcard, offering the most evocative and classic views: the dome of St. Peter, Castel Sant’Angelo, the bridges over the Tiber, as well as places well known to its inhabitants such as the Grande Raccordo Anulare, underground Rome whose sewers house the bad guys, and the Bioparco where the characters meet the large zoo animals who help them in their mission, including some crocodiles who help little Gino overcome his identity crisis. The Tiber river is a common theme in all the events.
“In addition to the more classic views,” said director Marco Storani, “it was fun to include some details that someone might notice, such as setting Gino’s house in a boat known to the Romans, the Tiber II, which ran aground on the river banks during a flood in 2008. It was removed not long ago, but it had been there for years and the Romans had nicknamed it the Titanic of Rome”.

Gino is a little crocodile who has always lived on the banks of the Tiber river. Having never seen anything like him before, the other animals on the river treat him like a stranger. All except for Thomas, an unusual seagull who accepts him without any suspicion and becomes his friend. Gino is suffering an identity crisis so Thomas takes him to Ofelia, a wise owl, who might be able to help him. While they are looking for Ofelia, Gino, Thomas and Claire, a sinuous, wild cat, accidentally discover the terrible plan hatched by Willow, evil leader of the rats, who is determined to exterminate humanity and conquer the city.
