Some of the scenes in the film were filmed on the abandoned island of San Giorgio in Alga, on the lagoon before Marghera; the Venetian church of San Zaccaria is where Felice and Adelaide’s wedding takes place. Other scenes were filmed in Campo Santa Giustina in Venice, while other shots of the lagoon were taken from Tronchetto, an artificial island on the western side of Venice which it is attached to. Some short scenes were filmed on the island of Burano.

Screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1975, the story centres around Felice, a young simpleton who is on his second marriage, with Adelaide. One day he meets his ex-wife, who he’s never forgotten and thought had drowned, and the flame between them is re-ignited.
