Where it was filmed 'The Correspondence'

The film is imbued with a dark atmosphere which somewhat mirrors the melancholic plot of the film. It is an atmosphere that is not so surprising in the scenes shot in Edinburgh where the professor lives, and in Yorkshire at Amy’s mother’s house, but we can also feel it to some extent in the locations chosen in the North of Italy, where the rest of the film was shot.
The two lovers have a set meeting place for their amorous encounters, Ed’s house in the fictitious Borgo Ventoso, which is actually the Island of San Giulio, on Lake Orta (Novara). Some of the sets for Borgo Ventoso were also set up on the Isola dei Pescatori on Lake Maggiore.
In Orta San Giulio, Ed has organised an impromptu dinner for his birthday, during which Amy dines alone and discovers the cause of Ed’s death from the manager. She’s in the San Giulio restaurant, which is located in an 18th century villa and was, for the occasion, redecorated in Portuguese style.
Some of the intimate moments between the couple take place in Trento at the grand Hotel, where the professor stays for various commitments. A number of locations were chosen in Alto Adige, on the other hand, including Amy’s apartment in Via dei Conciapelli in Bolzano and the historical library of the Major Seminary where we see her studying ancient volumes, the Faculty of Scienze della Formazione and Piazza Duomo in Bressanone.
As well as being a student, Amy is trying to forget a sad event from her past as a stuntwoman: in one of these scenes she is “blown up” near the Castle of Montenero Sabino in the province of Rieti.
