Livorno is one of the most important Italian ports and is also the place where the Military Navy Academy is located. The historical district of Venezia Nuova (New Venice) is a distinctive part of the town and is called this way because it is crossed by canals and bridges. Some of the most important monuments and locations in Livorno include the Cisternone (Big Cistern), the Monumento dei Quattro Mori (Monument of the Four Moors), Terrazza Mascagni and the Fortezza Vecchia (Old Fortress).
