One of the so-called “drawing rooms” of Turin, Piazza Maria Teresa is an elegant and peaceful corner of the city, the result of a neoclassical redesign of the area between 1825 and 1836. The square piazza has a small offshoot in the southwest end which features a statue of Guglielmo Pepe created by Stefano Butti in 1858. In the centre is a treelined garden where a cedar of Lebanon planted in 1842 is still flourishing. Significant buildings on the piazza include: a 19th century building by architect Giuseppe Formento (1838) and the Convent and Church of the Sacramentine Nuns.
