The lakes of Sibari – created in the 1970s when several businessmen from Friulian reclaimed a swamp – are located in the gulf of Taranto, near Cassano allo Ionio (Cosenza). Today, they are part of a residential complex which includes four peninsulas housing 30-50 villas; a large harbour with approx. 3000 berths for boats up to 18-20m; an inner dock, which is 2.5m deep, and the porte Vinciane, 6m wide, that provide access to the lakes.
In addition to the private development, there is a 2.5km beach and various services including shops, a hotel, sporting facilities, a cinema and a church.
