Villaggio Mancuso is a mountain tourist resort in the subrange of Sila Piccola, built in the early 20th century as a holiday destination for inhabitants of Catanzaro. Its greatest expansion took place in the 1950s and 60s when the little wooden cabins in white and black planks, reminiscent of typical Swiss houses, were built.
The resort symbol is the rotunda, a cylindrical wooden building that is both bar and restaurant. The little Church of St. Mary of the Angels, with a pitched roof, is the place of worship. The fairy hotel – albergo delle Fate – in the village centre is inscribed as a national historic monument.
Villaggio Mancuso is often used as a base for trekkers exploring Sila Piccola or the trails in the Nature Reserve Poverella Villaggio Mancuso, a protected area of just over 1,000 hectares established in 1977. The reserve has woods of Bosnian pine, juniper and hawthorn and provides a habitat for the Eurasian sparrowhawk, variable goshawk and wolf.
