Description

Located in the territory of Stalettì (province of Cosenza), in the stretch of Ionian sea known as the costa degli Aranci, the bay of Caminia is a natural opening of about 1km, with a wide pale sand beach. It stretches out between two rocky, steep promontories with the Copanello cliff, also known as the Palombaro Tower on one side, and the Pietragrande cliff on the other.
The bay is studded with openings, caves and archaeological artefacts, which include the ruins of the ancient Chapel of Panaja and a cave over the sea traditionally considered the repository of the remains of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus. The presence of an ancient watch tower and limestone kilns, which also date to ancient times, bear witness to the historical value of the place, considered a safe harbour in the past.
An abundant forest of pine trees, characteristic to the Ionian coastline, stretches out between the beach and the rocky cliff that plunges down to the sea.
