BERLIN – Artificial intelligence is bringing radical transformation to the film industry. A series of innovative AI-based solutions were presented at EFM Startups 2025 that promise to revolutionize production, distribution and management of the sector, with improved revenue forecasting, optimized workflows and a more efficient production process.

AI for production: tools to optimize costs and risks

One of the areas where AI is having a significant impact is production. Startups have developed tools to improve project management, reduce costs and optimize resources. The American Greenlit presented an AI-based solution to simplify the administrative management of a production, optimizing contracting, financing and tax incentives. Another American startup, Producers Pin (Production Incentives Network), has tools to help producers raise capital more effectively. The British ALL-VP has developed an AI-powered lighting system for virtual production which digitally recreates realistic environments, reducing the cost of on-location shooting and improving the sustainability of productions.

Box office forecasting and marketing optimization

Another key aspect for the industry is forecasting a film’s commercial success. This is where AI comes in, helping to predict box office receipts and optimize marketing strategies. Titlepool, an American startup, has developed an intelligent platform for rights and revenue management, allowing studios and distributors to maximize profits. From the UK, Predictive Box Office uses AI to analyse historical data and market trends, in order to produce more accurate predictions of a film’s potential box office.

Creating promotional content has also been made easier thanks to AI. Maggy Cassis, a German startup, allows users to generate social content and marketing materials by uploading synopses, cast and scripts, speeding up the promotional process.

AI for Distribution: New Opportunities for Cinema

AI is also revolutionizing distribution, making films accessible in places where there are traditionally no cinemas. From Spain, Gretico has developed technology that allows films to be screened locally in areas without cinemas, expanding the potential audience and democratizing access to film content. In South Korea, the HiStranger platform has presented an AI-based content diagnosis system, which analyses films and TV series to suggest targeted distribution strategies, maximizing their reach.

On the data analytics side, Lithuanian Perfection42 is a platform that allows companies to train AI models based on intellectual property, improving the personalization of film offerings.

AI for the African Market

African Screen Intelligence (ASI) is an AI-based platform designed to fill the market gap for African film industries, using advanced machine learning, natural language processing and data integration. ASI provides real-time news, insights, data analytics and tailored decision-making tools for producers, distributors, filmmakers, investors and other key stakeholders, unlocking the full creative and commercial potential of the continent’s growing markets.
