Piedmont: A €15 million return for the region in 2016 thanks to production

13-11-2017

It was a profitable 2016 for the entire audiovisual sector in Piedmont: indeed, there was an estimated €15 million return for the region, €10 million of which from television series alone. And that’s without counting the benefits for tourism, which can only be assessed in the medium term. The Turin Piedmont Film Commission, which was the first film commission to be created in Italy (no fewer than 17 years ago), has contributed significantly to this success: it has over 100 television products under its belt, some of which have really captured the imagination of tourists who love visiting film locations. When the first season of Elisa di Rivombrosa, along with the sentimental dramas of its characters, introduced Italians to the beauty of the Ducal Castle of Agliè (TO), almost 100,000 tourists decided that it was worth roaming the countryside of North-West Italy in search of the main locations used in the series. This was back in 2004. Over the years, Piedmont has hosted other successful productions, from Marco Tullo Giordana’s The Best of Youth (2003) to the more recent Questo Nostro Amore (from 2012) and Non Uccidere (2015), without forgetting the long-running Provaci ancora Prof (from 2005). The promotion of the local area is accompanied by an industrial-type strategy involving, as explained the director of the Turin Piedmont Film Commission, the proposal of local locations for series set elsewhere too, like Il Mostro di Firenze and Le cinque giornate di Milano.
