Lina Wertmüller chose to shoot her debut film The Basilisks amidst the white alleys and stairways of Minervino Murge and Spinazzola, in central Puglia, with some locations in Andria and her hometown of Palazzo San Gervasio in the Potenza area.
The basilisks, represented in the film by Francesco (Stefano Satta Flores), Sergio (Ferrarino) and Antonio (Petruzzi), are the young people of the South, who have made the controra a lifestyle, dozing like lizards in the sun, in apathy and listlessness, without a true goal, an ideal, a perspective.
