Caravan, Zuzana Kirchnerová’s directorial debut, selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2025, is an Italian minority co-production, co-produced by Tempesta Film with the Czech Republic (MasterFilm) and Slovakia (Nutprodukcia), with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, with the support of Eurimages, Emilia-Romagna Film Commission, Fondazione Calabria Film Commission.
The film is a road movie that tells the story of a woman who embarks on a journey through Italy with her intellectually disabled son to Calabria.
On her journey, Ester visits several locations in Romagna, including Ravenna, Cervia, Milano Marittima, Cesenatico and Bellaria-Igea Marina, and Lido di Volano (Codigoro) in the Ferrara area at. The first 3 weeks of filming in Emilia-Romagna were followed by 5 weeks in Calabria, in Melito di Porto Salvo, Bova, Bova Marina, Palizzi, Condofuri, Porto Saline Joniche, Roghudi, San Lorenzo, Brancaleone, Locri, ending in South Moravia in Czechia.
