Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach and produced by Film Production Consultants for Netflix, follows movie star Jay Kelly (George Clooney) and his devoted manager, Ron (Adam Sandler) on a whirlwind and surprisingly profound journey across Europe. Along the way, the men are forced to confront their life choices and reflect on their closest relationships and the legacy they will leave.
The five-week shoot (May 2024) included locations such as the Piacenza plain, specifically the area along the Piacenza-Cremona railway line; the Boschi area of Monticelli d’Ongina between the two overpasses; and Caorso, viale/piazza della Stazione and parco degli Alpini (2 -8 May).
The production moved to Milan for a single day (2 May), where, to the amazement of passing passengers, the two Hollywood stars starred in a scene on Platform 20 of the Central Station, with forty-odd extras dressed in Nineties clothing.
The rest of the film was shot in Tuscany: Arezzo, the Petrarca theatre, and the Argiano winery in Montalcino (Siena), where Brunello is produced, a Renaissance villa designed by Baldassarre Peruzzi, famous for hosting poet Giosuè Carducci in the late 19th century; Pienza (from 21 May): two days in the "Buca delle Fate" restaurant on corso Rossellino, near the Church of San Francesco, Piazza Pio II, piazza di Spagna, Palazzo Piccolomini and its gardens; Montecatini Terme and other towns in the Arezzo area, and; Pitigliano, province of Grosseto (23 May).
