The Tenuta dei Massimi Nature Reserve extends across the south-west of the city of Rome, out beyond the buildings of the Corviale, Borgata del Trullo and Pisana neighbourhoods. The area is typical of the Roman countryside, with vast open plains, mostly cultivated or used for grazing, alternating with hills and small side valleys, their steepest slopes covered with woods.
The erosive action of the Tiber River and its tributaries in this area has caused the formation of uplands and flat areas, bordered by watercourses from the Brava, Acquafredda, Bravetta and Maglianella channels. Along with the adjacent Valle dei Casali, the park area creates a key nature corridor between the city, the flood plain of the Tiber River and the coastal plains.
The Reserve is mostly used for cultivation and features small woods of turkey oak with some cork trees. The Somaini Wood, annexed to the Reserve, is very interesting.
