Located on a high plain behind the residential area of Tivoli (RM), near the Monti Lucretili range of which it is almost a southern extension, the Nature Reserve of Monte Catillo dominates the course of the River Aniene and its waterfalls in the area where the Roman countryside gives way to the first outcrops of mountains. The Reserve includes: forests, woods of shrubs, scrubland and grazing pastures. Limestone in nature, Monte Catillo offers wide views despite having a maximum height of 612m. The entire area displays traces of human activity, especially ancient pastoral settlements, ruined Roman villas, aqueducts and medieval towers.
