Collebaccaro, hamlet in the municipality of Contigliano (RI), rises on a small hill in the northern part of the Valley of River Canera where it flows onto the Piana Reatina (Rieti Valley). Although the residential centre has medieval origins, a Roman villa belonging to the Cannei family was found nearby.
The name of the hamlet, clearly a rendering of “Colle Vaccaro” (Cattle Hill), demonstrates its use as cattle pasture, for herds once belonging to the governor of the adjacent castle Poggio Fidoni.
