Description

While no longer inhabited, the Bibione lighthouse, standing solitary at the mouth of the Tagliamento river in the hamlet of San Michele al Tagliamento (Venezia), is still active as a navigational aid.  Built in the early 1900s, the lighthouse is the symbol of this quiet and peaceful area. Its simple, linear architecture comprises a rectangular two-storey building with a 21m tall cylindrical tower which is visible up to 15 miles from the shore.
Restructured in 2015, the lighthouse today hosts art exhibitions, musical events, conventions, conferences and weddings.  It can easily be reached from the beach or by an unpaved path that crosses through the natural surroundings of Lido dei Pini and the mouth of the Tagliamento river where Mediterranean and Alpine flora combine in an unusual landscape.
