Description

Palazzo Valloni, 162 Corso d'Augusto in Rimini, was owned by brothers Demofonte and Aurelio Valloni. Following an earthquake in 1787, the facade was rebuilt to a design by architect Giuseppe Valadier. The building later underwent heavy alterations. In 1920, following a renovation by Addo Cupi, the Cinema Fulgor was moved into the building.
Cinema Fulgor fascinated Federico Fellini who frequented it as a child and later evoked it in films such as Roma and Amarcord, transforming a small provincial cinema and its wooden benches facing the screen into one of the most famous and referenced places in the cinematic world; the symbol of cinema as the art of escapism and dreams.
After a multi-year closure to allow significant and meticulous renovation of the historic building, the cinema officially reopened on 20 January 2018, Federico Fellini's birthday, comprising a cultural and social centre as part of the Fellini Museum. Dante Ferretti has masterfully recreated the unique, unusual cinema, far from contemporary 'functional' stereotypes, restoring that ancestral and magical dimension where darkness and the silver screen created dreams and lives. Ferretti’s design evokes a film set, a tribute to American cinema of the Thirties and Forties.
