Nature Park of the River Sile

Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile, Via Alessandro e Luigino Tandura, Treviso, TV, Italia

Description

The Regional Nature Park of the River Sile, which flanks the river’s course, extends over 4,152 hectares across 11 municipal territories in the provinces of Padua, Treviso and Venice.
From the fontanassi where it begins to the Venetian lagoon where it ends, the river Sile is a priceless open-air volume that conserves all the stories, traditions and legends of the land and people of Veneto. 70 km in length, it is the longest spring-derived river in Italy. A pedestrian and cycle itinerary, known as “la porta dell’acqua” winds through the area of the sources, (the fontanassi as the springs are known in Veneto), between Casacorba, Cavasagra di Vedelago and Torreselle di Piombino Dese.
Another place of interest is the Nature Oasis of Mulino Cervara, near Santa Cristina, which extends over a 25-hectare islet bordered by the Sile and the Piovega canal. It conserves a vast heritage, both in terms of biodiversity and built heritage: a mill, one of the several ancient buildings there, today houses an ethnographical museum.
The restere (raised river banks used as towpaths) are particularly important. A bicycle itinerary, giraSile, follows the river through Casacorba and Portegrandi, part of an overall 90km of cycle paths.
