There’s a lot of Lazio at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from 8 to 19 May. Indeed, the two Italian films announced in competition so far, Dogman by Matteo Garrone and Lazzaro felice by Alice Rohrwacher starring Nicoletta Braschi, were made with support from the Lazio Region to the tune of over €1 million, and are set in Roma and Bagnoregio in the province of Viterbo. In commenting on his choice of the two films, the President of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti, reaffirmed that film productions and co-productions help to promote a region’s beauties, showing them off in Europe and the rest of the world. The generous investments made available to film productions, production companies and film festivals have made Lazio the European region with the second highest level of investment in the film sector.
