The Old Guard 2, adrenaline-fueled sequel to The Old Guard, based on the world created by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernandez, will be available on Netflix from July 2.
Produced by Eagle Pictures and directed by Victoria Mahoney, the film stars Charlize Theron who debuts a new dark look as Andromache of Scythia, leader of a group of clandestine immortal mercenaries fighting to protect the mortal world. The cast also includes Luca Marinelli and Uma Thurman.
In 2022, the Roman coast provided a location for the film, including a couple of days on via del Faro, near the old port of Fiumicino where the scaffolding, ruins of the harbour signals building, and the stretch of water near the mouth of the Tiber river transformed the area into a war set.
Filming continued in central Rome, before returning to the coast at the Perugini "tree house" in via Marina di Campo, Fregene, where a forest on stilts was created.
The Rive di Trieste also provided a location.
Lake Iseo features as the backdrop to several scenes, with a stretch of coastal road known as western Sebina which is the location for the "orrido di Castro" (Castro Ravine), where imposing rocks plunge sheer into the water. Locations also included Lovere, Riva di Solto, Predore, and Tavernola.
Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team of immortal warriors return with renewed determination in their mission to protect the world. While Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) is in exile following his betrayal, Quynh (Veronica Ngô) is searching for revenge after escaping an underwater prison, and Andy is grappling with her reinstated mortality, a mysterious threat emerges that could jeopardize everything she's worked for thousands of years. Andy, Nile (KiKi Layne), Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli), and James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) enlist the help of Tuah (Henry Golding), an old friend who may hold the key to unlocking the mystery of immortal existence.
