Filming has begun in Rome on the new season of the documentary miniseries dedicated to the saints, Martin Scorsese presents: The Saints St. 2 (see On set) directed by his daughter Francesca Scorsese with Matti Leshem, Rubin Stein and Devereux Milburn and narrated by Martin Scorsese who is also executive producer.
Eight weeks of filming are scheduled (May 21st to August 5th 2025), with a 76-strong crew (including 7 international resources); recent locations have included the Roman Catholic school Istituto Nazareth in Via Cola di Rienzo. Locations outside of Rome, Lazio include Umbria (Assisi), Sicily (Custonaci) and Basilicata (Matera).
Each episode delves into the life and legacy of a saint; the first season, available on the Fox Nation streaming platform since last November, featured Saint John the Baptist, Saint Sebastian, Joan of Arc and Father Maximilian Kolbe.
"I have lived all my life with the stories of the saints, thinking about their words and actions, imagining the worlds they inhabited, the choices they had to face, the examples they gave," Martin Scorsese said about the project.
The Italian executive producer of Martin Scorsese presents: The Saints St. 2 is Lupin Film, based in Rome and responsible for the executive production of Roland Emmerich’s series Those about to Die (2024) and Michael Mohan’s American horror, Immaculate (2024).
