The first quarter of 2019 has already produced a healthy balance sheet of productions shot in Piedmont: 5 feature length films (including 2 foreign productions), 2 TV series, 8 documentaries, 8 short films, 5 digital projects, 12 TV formats and 16 commercials. The announcement was made at the Cannes Film Festival by Film Commission Torino Piemonte (FCTP) during a session organized with Visit Piemonte, the Region Piemonte’s in-house department for the promotion of tourism and food and agriculture. The results are an increase even on 2018, a year which saw a good 117 productions.
The latest call for funding, Piemonte Doc Film Fund, has assigned €69,000 to 12 projects in development and €101,000 to 8 projects in production while the Short Film Fund has allocated €20,000 to 2 projects.
In the coming weeks, FCTP will also activate additional support for the industry through the Development Film TV Fund – Fondi di sviluppo per cinema e TV which has an initial budget of €250,000 for distribution to production companies for projects in development.
In addition to the results of the previous months, the promotional activities and strategies for the international market, created by the collaboration between the two institutions, were also presented during the session, entitled “Piemonte on the move”. FCTP and Visit Piemonte work profitably together in territorial marketing activities for “Brand Piemonte”: ranging from the creation of promotional videos, using images from films shot in the territory, to the sharing of resources (photographic archives, location databases, film backstage videos) and the organization of promotional events for their respective reference targets. This strategy has, since 2000, created the basis for a working Cinema System in Piedmont which has been sealed with a memorandum of understanding.
