22-09-2025 Mo.Sa Reading time: 2 minutes

Lazio Cinema International's first 2025 session is now open: a €5 million budget (€10 million total for the year) is available for supporting international audiovisual works that choose Lazio as a setting and production engine. Applications can be submitted from September 30 (12:00 p.m. CET) to October 28, 2025 (5:00 p.m. CET).

The initiative is part of Strategic Objective 1 – A more competitive and intelligent Europe, with a specific focus on strengthening SMEs in the audiovisual sector.

The beneficiaries of the call are original and independent producers of the work, i.e., those who hold the rights to the work and are eligible for the Tax Credit for film production, as SMEs with operational headquarters in Lazio. Companies may make a single submission.

The call is open to a wide range of international productions, including:

  • Films made in international co-production, in accordance with Italy’s bilateral agreements and other countries;
  • TV or web productions, provided there is a significant Italian and foreign component (minimum 20% each);
  • Animation, fiction, and documentary works, with a clearly defined running time and minimum budget (e.g., 52 minutes; €1.5 million for films, €2 k per minute for TV fiction, €400 per minute for documentaries and animation).

The public grant covers a maximum of 50% of eligible costs: the maximum grant for each work is €1 million. The grant is made up of several portions:

  • A base amount of 30% (35% if the Italian and foreign quotas are well-balanced); a maximum of €600 k;
  • An additional 5% if the work is of regional interest (a maximum of €140 k);
  • An additional 5% or 10% if the project is of particular regional interest (a maximum of €260 k);
  • A De Minimis grant is available to cover the costs of the statutory auditor required for certifying expenses.

Lazio Cinema International is a call for proposals funded by PR FESR Lazio 2021-2027 and considered a strategically important operation in the programme.
