Many of Naples’ iconic places will feature in the upcoming film and TV series season. There are, in fact, many sets in the city at the moment, a demonstration of the pull that Naples exerts on film and TV. One could come across a shoe shop from times gone by, Calzature Solara in Piazza dei Martiri: Lila, one of the main characters in the Rai series My Brilliant Friend is now grown up and using her experience from her shoe-maker father’s workshop to open a luxury footwear shop in the centre of Naples. The Neapolitan actor Giampaolo Morelli has chosen his home city for his directorial debut: his film, Sette ore per farti innamorare is set in Bagnoli, a neighbourhood in the eastern outskirts of Naples. Another TV series and another important symbol of the city: The San Carlo Theatre, seen very often in film and TV. Played by Lino Guanciale, Commissioner Ricciardi, the main character of a new Rai Fiction-Clemart series created by Neapolitan Maurizio De Giovanni, is investigating the murder of a famous tenor. Set in the 1930’s, the series is being shot in the location where the novel takes place: Il senso del dolore. L’inverno del Commissario Ricciardi. To find out how it ends, tune into your television next autumn.
