Calabria has a summer filled with productions. Shooting has just finished on the RAI series, Angela, produced by 11 Marzo Film and supported by the Calabria Film Commission, directed by Andrea Porporati. The drama series (3 eps x 100 minutes) which stars Vanessa Incontrada, Giuseppe Zeno and Sebastiano Somma is an action thriller focused on the character of Angela, whose nine year old son has been killed in a road accident. When a mysterious neighbour, who has entrusted Angela with her children for a night, is murdered, Angela must leave Northern Italy and head south to save them. Her escape ends in Calabria where the production shot in Tropea, Parghelia, Pizzo, Briatico, Monasterace, Gerace and Pentadattilo.
The series Angela was a beneficiary of the Regione’s first call to action in support of audio-visual productions and other projects which also included the feature-length film Calibro 9, produced by Minerva Picture Group and directed by Tony D’Angelo, and Nel Sole by Claudio Noce produced by Lungta Film, a story set between the province of Crotone and the Ionian coast starring Pierfrancesco Favino as a Calabrian magistrate. The second half of August sees principal photography on Armando De Razza’s Una femmina, produced by Tramp, in the area of Sila and the Aspromonte.
The call for the third round of financing opens on 2 September 2019. Production companies will have time to submit applications for contributions to film, TV drama, documentary or short film projects until 1 October.
