In July 2026, 14 new film and TV productions* began shooting in Italy. This brings the total of productions that have started since the beginning of the year to 139, plus a further 15 productions that are continuing work started in 2025.
The productions that started work in July, continuing into the following months, account for a total of 92.5 shoot weeks. In terms of workforce, the Italian crews comprise 802 professionals, joined by 12 foreign professionals. The two foreign productions starting in July will spend a total of 10 weeks in Italy, employing more than 110 crew members, in addition to 12 foreign professionals.
Directing remains predominantly a male domain: men direct 13 of the 14 projects in the July sample.
Half of the July productions (7) are mini-series; plus five feature-length films, a TV film and a medium running series. These include one documentary and 13 works of fiction.
July 2026 marked the start of filming for 11 Italian productions, 2 foreign productions, and 1 international co-production (Slovenia).
The two foreign productions are both miniseries of six episodes each.
The Postman, a German production, is scheduled to film for 8 weeks in Rome. It follows a postman who becomes a reluctant silent hero when he delivers a letter that draws him into a story involving international intelligence agencies and the Italian criminal underworld (see On Set).
Meanwhile, Season 4 of The Cleaner directed by Tom Marshall (starring Greg Davies as Paul “Wicky” Wickstead, a British crime-scene cleaner) is filming for two weeks in Trento (see On Set). In this Christmas-themed season, a skiing holiday in Italy becomes a surreal investigation filled with unexpected twists for the protagonist.
The international co-production is Il tempo delle mele cotte, directed by Andrea Muzzi and starring Paola Minaccioni, produced by Angelika Vision and Fair Play in collaboration with the Slovenian production company Staragara (SL). Two blocks of filming are scheduled for Rome: one week at the end of July and the remainder in September (see On Set).
Just over half of the 14 productions (8) are shooting in part or entirely in Lazio, in particular in Rome and surroundings.
These include the eight-episode miniseries Bro, directed by Riccardo Donna and Tobia Campana for Prime Video, starring Can Yaman and Giovanni Nasta as lawyers and half-brothers, Riccardo and Nicola Ridolfi, opposites in every respect, who are forced by unforeseen circumstances to work together to save the family firm (see On Set).
Despite a seasonal decline in production due to the summer break, July productions are spread across Italy from north to south. Trentino is the only region to host two productions during the month: the aforementioned The Cleaner, and Nemo – Chi ha ucciso Sofia, a six-episode series filming in Trento and Trieste for 10 weeks (see On Set), directed by Carmine Elia and produced by Filmmaster for RAI.
