Where it was filmed 'La Strada'

The film which won Federico Fellini the Academy Award© for Best Foreign Language Film was shot between 1953 and 1954 in central Italy, mostly in Lazio and Abruzzo.

Scenes were shot on the streets of Fiumicino (Rome), such as Zampanò and Gelsomina’s first show in Piazza Gian Battista Grassi, and near the cargo depot of Fiumicino Porto Canale. Other scenes used Rome as a location, such as Via Corinto, and the area around the nearby Basilica of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls. In Bagnoregio (Viterbo), Piazza Camillo Benso di Cavour provides the setting for the village party that the characters join in.

Zampanò abandons Gelsomina while she is sleeping on the state road in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, municipality of Rocca di Mezzo (province of L’Aquila). In the same municipality, Gelsomina had earlier displayed her mental instability to Zampanò in Piazza Principe di Piemonte.
