The second, third and fourth levels of the game are set in Venice. Certain characteristic architectural and urban details of the city (such as gondolas) are reproduced in the game, even with the technical limitations of the time. Lara moves between the narrow streets and canals, exploring a Venetian villa and theatre (the famous La Fenice theatre?). Worth mentioning is level nine, which is set in the Suez Canal and sees Lara exploring the wreckage of the Maria Doria. This is a clear reference to Italian ocean liner the Andrea Doria, which sank off the coast of New York in 1956.

Action / Adventure
Core Design
The second instalment in the series adventures of British archaeologist Lara Croft. As is traditional with the series, the various missions are set in locations inspired by real places, which are rendered more or less faithfully to their real-life counterparts. The narrative driving force behind this instalment is the search for the Dagger of Xian, which, legend has it, allows its owner to transform into a dragon. The protagonist travels to England, China, Egypt, Tibet and Italy.
