Where it was filmed 'Red Desert'

The landscape that provides the backdrop for Giuliana’s story is the alienating and polluted industrial area of Ravenna, the port and factory smoke of which contrasts with the cold and grey city. In this case, the absent husband who is incapable of understanding the concerns of his wife is an industrial executive.

At Radiotelescopi di Medicina (BO), where Corrado tries in vain to offer a new job to a technician who works there, Giuliana asks to listen to the stars.

The only escape from the reality she lives in is through a fairy-tale that Giuliana tells her son: suddenly the grey and the noise disappear and, like a foreign object, the pink beach of Budelli (OT) appears, an island in the Maddalena Archipelago in the middle of the turquoise sea. It’s a paradise, the silence of which is interrupted by nothing but a sort of celestial music.
