Where it was filmed 'Gli agnelli possono pascolare in pace'

Gli agnelli possono pascolare in pace by Beppe Cino is a simple story of redemption, set in a Southern town resembling Molfetta in Apulia.

Alfonsina Milletarì (Maria Grazia Cucinotta) is a naive woman, devoted to her deceased parents and less to her brother Saverio (Massimo Venturiello). While she brings a cup of coffee to her parents buried in the city cemetery every day, she hasn't spoken to her brother for years due to a dispute over land. Why does Our Lady of Sorrows, the sacred icon of the town, appear to her in a dream? Why does she have a foreign accent and the face of a girl who has recently arrived in the country? Is she really buried under the carob tree on the border between Saverio's land and the property belonging to the Malavasi family, with whom the relationship is tense?

The community's point of reference is the Church of Purgatory in Molfetta: even Alfonsina, although she does not often go inside, seeks help and comfort from the 16th century statue, venerated in the town for centuries. But the statue has been removed for restoration work.

The story involves Saverio, Alfonsina's older brother and keeper of some unspeakable secret; Youssef, a Moroccan shepherd whose daughter, Aziza, looks very much like the Madonna of her dream but who works in a bar; Mariem, Aziza's mother; Sabrie, an Ethiopian boy; Ganu Malavasi, son of Giuseppe, the rude neighbour; and Demetrio Picipò, an old and resentful baron paralyzed from the waist down, who roams town in a wheelchair assisted by Adeline, a Tunisian carer.

“It is the year 2170. You read but none of you are there” reads the mysterious plaque in a rock on the pier of Cala Sant'Andrea, behind Molfetta Cathedral, where Baron Picipò takes refuge, afflicted by the heaviness of guilt.

Can the Virgin Mary break down boundaries, reveal secrets hidden for years, bring forgiveness and peace into the lives of the families involved? In addition to Molfetta, locations included the Posta Santa Croce farmstead in Bisceglie.

Apulia. Alfonsina Milletarì sees her village’s Virgin Mary of the village in a dream; she speaks with a foreign accent and asks for help because she is buried under a carob tree.
