Shooting on The Betrayers, directed by Canadian writer and director David Bezmozgis, an international production by Vortex Media of Canada and Fore Film of Ukraine, with executive production by Dinamo Film, is wrapping up in Puglia. The film was made with the contribution of Apulia Film Fund of Apulia Film Commission and Regione Puglia using resources from POR Puglia FESR-FSE 2014/2020.
June 27 is the last scheduled shoot day (see "On set" tab) for a production that has counted a crew of 45 people (many from Puglia) and spent 3 weeks in multiple urban and coastal locations in the region which provides the backdrop for a story set in Crimea and Jerusalem. Bari, Bitetto, Monopoli, Mola di Bari and Modugno were transformed into corners of Eastern Europe.
Dinamo Film, with executive producer Ivan D’Ambrosio, production manager Enrico Magliocca art director Mattia Lorusso and his set design team, has succeeded in creating settings for places whose architecture and landscapes are very different to that in Apulia. This is a strong point of the industry in Puglia, where the level of professionalism is so high that the region is also attractive to productions who are focused on the primary need of the film industry: creating verisimilitude, and uninterested in using the area as itself.
Dinamo Film also involved students from DAMS – Discipline dell'audiovisivo, della musica e dello spettacolo (University of Bologna)– in collaboration with the University of Bari Aldo Moro, organizing a set visit for young people interested in making a career in film production without having to leave Puglia.
The Betrayers is a drama set in a post-Cold War context which revolves around the meeting between a former Soviet dissident and his betrayer, offering space for profound reflections on the themes of justice, memory and forgiveness.
