Where it was filmed 'The Healer'

Set in rural Sicily after WWII, La Bocca dell'Anima, debut feature film by Palermo director Giuseppe Carleo, is inspired by a true story.

It tells the dark trauma that smoulders in the soul of Giovanni Velasques. Returning to his hometown, a small village nestled in the rugged mountains of an unusual snowy Sicily, Giovanni meets an elderly maara who, to free him from that pain, initiates him into the art of magic. With an anthropological tone, the film delves into Sicilian memory, exalting the language of popular magic and demonstrating – for the first time - how a man becomes a magician in this rural culture, until his authority leads to a clash with the other two faces of power: the Church and the mafia.

Shot mainly in the municipality of Petralia Soprana (Palermo), the film stars the Italian-Iranian actor Maziar Firouzi as Giovanni Velasques, Marilù Pipitone as his wife, Serena Barone as the maara, and Maurizio Bologna as the priest.
