While he's with his father, Filo's dog, Birillo, disappears in the woods during a heavy storm. Without a second thought, Filo secretly sets out to find him with his friend Rullo. Bound by a deep friendship, the two boys face their fear, the darkness, and even Guelfo Tabacci, a mountain man as strange as he is mysterious.
