The port of Gioia Tauro (RC) is located in the gulf of Gioia Tauro in the heart of the Mediterranean, a meeting point between the east-west shipping lanes the trans-European Helsinki-La Valletta corridor. Shaped like a channel, the infrastructure covers 620 hectares of surface area, of which 440 are occupied by the terminal and 180 by the water, with depths between 14.5 and 18 meters.
Located in the municipalities of Gioia Tauro and San Ferdinando, the port has 5,130m of moorings, large harbour areas and a dock for harbour service boats, fishing and tourism. It is the largest transhipment terminal in Italy and one of the most important traffic container hubs in the Mediterranean basin.
